JOB TITLE: Electronics Installer/Technician

JOB SUMMARY:
Installing and troubleshooting basic navigational electronics; radar, GPS, autopilots, navigational instruments, VHF/SSB radios. Working on both recreational power and sailboats. Some installations of onboard computers and interfacing to different navigational electronics. Some use of a notebook PC to understand and install NEMA type interfacing. Must be capable and patient to complete quality and custom installations; cutting holes, wire runs, hydraulic work(both electrical and mechanical), possible minor glass work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supply own basic hand tools, cordless drill, vo meter.
  • Posses good customer PR and positive attitude.
  • Capable to fill out accurate time sheets, warranty forms and parts forms.
  • Keep customers boat and work area clean.
  • Communicate with management and/or customer as to job progress.
  • Communicate with parts manager of any parts or supplies needed.
  • Posses and maintain a valid drivers license.

JOB TITLE: Fiberglass/Painter/Carpenter

JOB SUMMARY:
Repairs paint, fiberglass and wood on power and sailboats. Prep and repainting complete or partial deck and/or hull with epoxy primers and polyurethane/enamel paints. Prepping and revarnishing exterior wood work. Custom structural glass work, modifications and customizing including interior bulkhead relocations, stiffener repairs/replacements, cosmetic fairing, deck and hull modifications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform all tasks required to repair all types of boat construction including but not limited to:

  • Fiberglass repair (both structural and cosmetic), painting of boats, grinding, sanding, filling, fairing and wood repair.
  • Keep customers boat and work area clean.
  • Communicate with management and/or customer as to job progress.
  • Communicate with parts manager of any parts or supplies needed.
  • Maintains and supplies own basic hand tools, cordless drill, etc.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Must have knowledge of fiberglass, cloth and fabrics. Must know proper usage of all types of resins, both epoxy and laminating. Job requires ability to prep and paint boats and to use hand and power tools safely and efficiently. Must understand all phases of boat repair in reference to fiberglass and wood. Must be capable of color matching and blending gelcoats and different acrylic paints. Must understand structural fiberglass lay ups and applications.

JOB TITLE: Laborer

JOB SUMMARY:
Perform duties to support RYS staff members during peak seasons of the year which include periods before and after the peak recreational boating season. Duties include a wide range of activities in preparation for seasonal launching and storage of recreational water craft.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Boat cleaning, buffing, waxing, sanding, painting, grinding of boats, etc.
  • Moving, placement, shoring, lifting, launching, hauling of boats, etc.
  • Installation and removal of canvas or plastic protective covering required for off season storage.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
  • Communicate with management and/or customer as to job progress.
  • General yard maintenance, clean up, garbage, etc. needed.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Ability to operate a tow motor. Must be able to work outside in sometimes adverse weather conditions. Must possess good written, verbal, language and comprehension skills. Ability to use hand and power tools safely and efficiently. Ability to work neatly and accurately. Familiar with operating and/or working with heavy machinery and working with other people around same equipment.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
Job requires heavy lifting, considerable variance in routine and standing, bending, laying and crouching for long periods of time. Ability to lift and move sixty pounds unassisted is also required.

JOB TITLE: Marine Mechanic/Technician

JOB SUMMARY:
Repairs all systems on pleasure power and sailboats. Diagnosing and repairing mechanical systems from diesel and gas engines to prop shafts, bearings, props etc. Maintains boatyard equipment and must be willing and able to move, shore, lift/launch boats.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform all tasks required to service boats per customer's requests, including but not limited to: oil changes, tune-ups, filter replacement, electrical and plumbing repair, diagnosis of all systems, installation of equipment.
  • Keep customers boat and work area clean.
  • Communicate with service and parts managers as to job progress.
  • Supply and maintain own tools.
  • Maintain boatyard equipment.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Must possess good written, verbal, language, math and comprehension skills. Ability to operate small hand power tools safely and efficiently, ex. grinders, drills, hones, polishers, saws, etc. Must have knowledge of repairing and diagnosis of gasoline and diesel powered engines, prop shafting, cutlass bearings, engine alignment, boat plumbing, electrical systems. Must understand and perform all maintenance from engine tune ups, oil changes, filters change, winterizing and commissioning on all ships systems.

JOB TITLE: Sailboat Rigger

JOB SUMMARY:
Perform repairs, sailboat rigging, complete tuning, furling, sheeting systems, sail installation, basically complete sailboat rigging (reassemble & commission) and decommissioning and yearly inspections. Also requires basic installation of new electronics, electrical, hydraulic and plumbing systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Dismantle, prep boats for unstepping, and inspection for repairs
  • Reassembly and basic repairs of rigging, reassemble boat and spar, tuning complete for sail away condition.
  • Perform off-site inspections, tuning, etc. with customers.
  • To be able to diagnose basic 12V (DC mainly) nav lights and wiring.
  • To be able to do some basic electronic and electrical installations and complete some basic mechanical repairs.

SKILLS/ABILITY:
Must possess good written, verbal, language, math and comprehension skills. Must have good customer PR due to working or reviewing repairs with customer on boat. Must be able to operate small hand power tools safely and efficiently, ex. drills, saws, sanders, polishers, etc. Must have good sound knowledge of sailing and boat handling to understand customer work requests and repairs. Must be able to work outside in adverse conditions. Must have own basic hand tools, cordless drill, vo meter etc. Must have valid drivers license to perform mobile repairs at various yacht clubs and marinas.
